Olivia visits Mom and Dad's First Home-Iowa City

Even thought Iowa City and Coralville are experiencing some terrible flooding right now, we still made the best of our trip, and started off by heading out into the ped mall.

After we shopped a little, Travis and I decided we were pretty hungry, so we went to one of our favorite restaurants, the Atlas, and had our favorite dishes, homemade mac and cheese and buffalo chicken wraps....Olivia had a delicious bottle of neocate.

It actually stopped raining for awhile, so we were able to sit outside and eat. Olivia had a lot of fun checking everything out.

After we ate, we did a little more shopping, and Olivia was having a good time. I think she is going to take after her Mom and be a professional shopper.

Next, we took a walk around campus, and saw the flood waters start to creep up into the library and student union. A ton of people were sandbagging buildings to protect them from the water...

Here is a picture of the Iowa River, which is normally MUCH lower and calmer. At this point, it was almost running over the Burlington St. bridge.

This is a pic of the University's power plant, which was starting to flood. The river was starting to flow into the basement.

Here is a picture of the Lindquist Center, which had been sandbagged in preparation for rising flood water. I had a lot of classes in this building when I was a student. The next day, volunteers made the wall of sandbags even higher.

After our walk around campus, we headed back to the hotel....

On Saturday, Olivia had a busy day meeting a lot of new friends.

First, we went over to Dr. House's, and Olivia met his daughter Sophie. She was very sweet and shared her toys with Olivia. She also showed Olivia how she could stand up and walk.

Next, we headed up to North Liberty to visit our neighbors Nick and Stephanie and baby Ainsley. Ainsley and Olivia were born just a few days apart, and had a really good time together.

They had a great time playing tug of war with these rings.

Both girls had a lot of fun, and can't wait to meet up again!

Now we were back to the hotel for a nap, and then later that night we met up with our friends Chad and Hilary and went to eat at another favorite place called Saloon, and it was quite tasty.

After icecream and a stroll through the ped mall, it was time to head back to the hotel to get some sleep.

On Sunday, we visited a few more places around Iowa City, did a little shopping, and then hit the road. We had a really good time and are already looking foward to our next visit. We packed up the car, packed up Olivia, and headed out....
